Making ornaments for the tree is one of my favorite parts of Christmas. Small, quick, and simple, there’s a lot of room for creativity to come into play. This simple snowman ornament is a great way to add a little color to the tree in a child-friendly way, and all it takes is a few scraps of yarn, a hook, and some stuffing.
Difficulty: Easy
Finished Size: Approx. 3.5″ high x 2″ wide
Materials:
- Red Heart Super Saver [100% Acrylic; 364yd/333m per 7oz/198g skein]; 10 yds White, 5 yds each Red and Green, small amount Orange and Black
- H/8 (5.00mm) hook
- Stuffing or Fiberfill
- Yarn Needle
Gauge: Gauge is not significant in this design.
Directions:
Body
Rnd 1: Ch 2; in 2nd ch from hook, make sc 6. Join rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 1; sc inc in each st around. (12 sc) Join rnd.
Rnd 3: Ch 1; [sc in next st, sc inc in next st] around. (18 sc) Join rnd.
Rnd 4-6: Ch 1; sc in each st around, join rnd.
Rnd 7: Ch 1; [sc in next st, sc dec across next 2 sts] around. (12 sc) Join rnd.
Rnd 8-10: Ch 1; sc in each st around, join rnd.
Finsh off white, begin red.
Rnd 11-13: Ch 1; sc in each st around. (12 sc) Join rnd.
Stuff body.
Rnd 14: Ch 1; sc dec around. (6 sc) Finish off, leaving a tail of yarn approx. 8″ long.
Weave end through 6 sts of Rnd 14, pull tight to close. Loop tail over and tie to form hanging loop; weave in excess.
Scarf: With green, ch 31. Skip 1st ch, sc in each ch across. (30 sc) Finish off.
Finishing:
- Wrap scarf in place around ‘neck,’ sew to secure.
- With black, embroider eyes.
- With orange, embroider nose.
- Weave in all ends.
