To add a touch of whimsy to your wardrobe this winter, why not make this easy, playful beret styled like a button? The ‘holes’ and ‘threads’ are simple pieces sewn onto a straightforward beret after it is finished, making it a cinch to whip out – but there’s no reason you have to tell anyone else that.

Finished Measurements: “Button” is 11.5″ in diameter.
Materials:
- Lion Brand Wool-Ease [80% Acrylic, 20% Wool; 197yd/180m per 85g/3oz skein]; color: MC – Ranch Red (140 yds), Black (10 yds), White Frost (5 yds)
- I/9 (5.50mm size) hook
- H/8 (5.00mm size) hook
- Tapestry Needle
Gauge: 12sts/7 rows = 4″/10cm in dc
Note: Do not join rounds unless directed.

Rnd 1: With I hook and MC, ch 4. Make 12 dc in 4th ch from hook. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: [Dc inc] in each st around. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: [Dc inc in next st, dc in next st] around. (36 dc)
Rnd 4: [Dc inc in next st, dc in next 2 sts] around. (48 dc)
Rnd 5: [Dc inc in next st, dc in next 3 sts] around. (60 dc)
Rnd 6: [Dc inc in next st, dc in next 4 sts] around. (72 dc)
Rnd 7: [Dc inc in next st, dc in next 5 sts] around. (84 dc)
Rnd 8: [Dc inc in next st, dc in next 6 sts] around. (96 dc)

Holes (make 4)
With H hook and black yarn, ch 4. Make 12 dc in 4th ch from hook, join to first stitch with a sl st. Finish off.
Thread (make 2)
With H hook and white yarn, ch 16. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. (15 sc) Finish off.
Finishing: To finish, cross ‘Threads’ at a 90 degree angle and tack in place. Sew one Hole to each end of the Thread, center the result on your beret, and sew in place. Weave in all ends.
