Bring a little style to the table with this bright and cheerful set for a new baby! The cardigan works up quickly and seamlessly from the top down and the little matching beanie will take hardly any time at all to complete.

• H/8 5.00mm hook
• Yarn Needle
• 1 – 1/2″ button

Gauge: 15 sts/18rows = 4″ in sc.

Directions:

Hat

Rnd 1: Ch 3; make 12 dc in 3rd ch from hook. (12 dc) Join rnd.

Rnd 2: Ch 2. Dc inc in each st around. (24 dc) Join rnd.

Rnd 3: Ch 2. *Dc inc, dc in next st. Rep from * around. (36 dc) Join rnd.

Rnd 4: Ch 2. *Dc inc, dc in each of the next 2 sts. Rep from * around. (48 dc) Join rnd.

Rnd 5: Ch 3. Dc in same st and each of the next 2 sts. Ch 1, sk 1 st. *Dc in each of the next 3 dc. Ch 1, sk 1 dc. Rep from * around, join in top of initial ch-3.

Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same st. Ch 3, sk 3 dc. *Sc in ch-1 sp, ch 3, sk 3 dc. Repeat from * around, join into first sc. (12 ch-3 spaces)

Rnd 7: Ch 3. *Make 3 dc in ch-3 space. Ch 1, sk sc. Rep from * around, join rnd in top of ch-3. (12 dc-3 blocks)

Repeat rnds 6 and 7 alternately, ending with a repetition of rnd 7. (5 dc block rows, including rnd 5)
Ch 1, sc in each st and space around. Finish off.

Sweater

Row 1: Ch 43. Sk 1 ch, sc in each remaining ch across. (42 sc) Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1. *Sc in each of the next 6 sc, sc inc in next st. Rep from * across. (48 sc) Turn.

Rows 3-14: Repeat Row 2, increasing the number in bold by 1 with each repetition. (120 sc after row 14)

Row 15: Ch 1; sc in each of the next 20 sts. Ch 4, sk 20 sc, sc in each of the next 40 sc. Ch 4, sk 20 sc, sc in each of the next 20 sc. (88 sts) Turn.

Row 16: Ch 1; sc in 1st st. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, sc in next st. *Ch 3, sk 3 sts, sc in next st. Repeat from * across. (22 ch-3 spaces)

Row 17: Ch 3. Work 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1. *Make 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1. Rep from * across, end with 3 dc in last ch-3 sp, dc in last sc. (22 dc blocks) Turn.

Row 18: Ch 1; sc in first dc. *Ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * across to last 4 dc. Ch 3, sk next 3 dc, sc in top of turning ch. (22 ch-3 spaces) Turn.

Rep rows 17 and 18 alternately, ending with a repetition of row 17 for a total of 6 dc-block rows.
Finish off.

Edging: Join at top corner and, working down front side and around bottom edge, make a sc in edge, ch 3, sc in next ch space (buttonhole made). Evenly space sc down front, place 3 sc in corner, sc across bottom, make 3 sc in corner, sc up other front edge, finish off.

Sleeves

Rnd 1: Join at first ch of underarm; ch 1. Sc in each ch across, sc in each sc around. (24 sc) Join rnd.

Rnds 2-10: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join.

Rnd 11: Ch 3; dc in same st and each of next 2 sts. Ch 1, sk 1 sc. *Dc in each of the next 3 sts, ch 1, sk 1 sc. Rep from * around until 4 sts remain; dc in next 3 sts, sk 1 sc, sl st in top of ch-3. (6 dc-3 blocks)

Rnd 12: Ch 1; sc in space between ch-3 and dc. Ch 3, sk 3 dc, sc in ch-1 sp. *Ch 3, sk 3 dc, sc in ch-1 sp. Rep from * around until 1 dc block remains; ch 3, join in first sc of round. (6 ch-3 spaces)

Rnd 13: Ch 3. *Make 3 dc in ch-3 space. Ch 1, sk sc. Rep from * around until 1 ch-sp remains. Make 3 dc in ch-3 space, join to top of ch-3.

Rnd 14: Ch 3; dc in each of the next 3 dc. *Ch 1, sk ch-sp, dc in each of next 3 dc. Rep from * around; join to top of ch-3 sp. Finish off.

Work second sleeve as first.

Finishing: Sew button to top corner of cardigan in position corresponding to buttonhole, weave in all ends.
