Cold ears are a curse on a blustery spring day, but you can beat the breeze with this easy wide headband embellished with a single rose and leaf. Your ears will be warm while you avoid hat-hair…although it may get a little windblown.


Size: One Size

Finished Measurements: 3″ x 26″

Materials:

  • Red Heart Super Saver Solids [100% Acrylic; 364yd/333m per 7oz/198g skein]; color: Aran – less than 1 skein, small amount Green (optional)
  • G (4.00mm size) hook
  • 1″ button
  • Tapestry Needle

Gauge: 9 sts/9 rows = 2″/5cm in sc.

Directions:

Headband
Row 1: Ch 6; sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (5 sc) Turn.

Rows 2-8: Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn.

Row 9: Ch 1. Make 2 sc in 1st st, sc in each st across until 1 st remains. Make 2 sc in last st. (7 sc) Turn.

Rows 10-18: Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn.

Row 19: Ch 1. Make 2 sc in 1st st, sc in each st across until 1 st remains. Make 2 sc in last st. (9 sc) Turn.

Rows 20-23: Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn.

Row 24: Ch 1. Make 2 sc in 1st st, sc in each st across until 1 st remains. Make 2 sc in last st. (11 sc) Turn.

Rows 25-102 (78 rows): Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn.

Row 103: Ch 1, skip 1 stitch. Sc in each st across until 1 st remains. (9 sc) Turn.

Rows 104-110: Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn.

Row 111: Ch 1, skip 1 stitch. Sc in each st across until 1 st remains. (7 sc) Turn.

Rows 112-115: Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn.

Row 116: Ch 1, skip 1 stitch. Sc in each st across until 1 st remains. (5 sc) Turn.

Rows 117-122: Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn.

Row 118: Ch 1. Sc in 1st st, ch 4, skip the next 3 sc, and sc in the last stitch of the row. Turn.

Row 119: Ch 1, sc in 1st st. Make 3 sc around ch-4 from previous row. Make 3 sc in last stitch to form corner. Turn work and sc down the side of the piece, sc’ing all the way up and around, making 3 sc at each corner. Join with a sl st, finish off.

Rose
Row 1: Ch 49. Sk 1 ch, sc in the next 5 ch, dc in the next 5 ch, sl st in next ch. Tr in the next 5 ch, dc in the next 5 ch, sc in the next 5 ch, dc in the next 5 ch, sl st in next ch. Tr in the next 5 ch, dc in the next 5 ch, sc in the last 6 ch. (48 sts) Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1. Skip 1 st, sc in the next 5 sts, sl st in next st. Tr in the next 6 sts, dc in the next 5 sts, sc in the next 5 sts, dc in the next 5 sts, sl st in the next st. Tr in the next 5 sts, sc in the next 3 sts, sl st in the next 3 sts and turn, leaving the remaining stitches unworked. (39 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the next 5 sts, sl st in next st. Tr in the next 10 sts, dc in the next 5 sts, sc in the next 5 sts. Dc in each st remaining. (39 sts) Turn.

Row 4: Ch 2; dc in each st across. Finish off.

Finishing:
1) Put on the headband, tightening it to the way you’ll want to wear it. Sew button to point where the buttonhole lays over the side without a buttonhole.

2) Curl rose into a spiral (with the shortest end in the center) and sew across bottom to prevent unfurling.

3) Sew rose to headband. If desired, use green yarn to embroider a leaf for it.

4) Weave in all ends. Enjoy!
