Difficulty: Easy

While thinking of cooler months ahead, in the midst of these hot summer days, I wanted to design a little something warm for my new niece that lives in North Dakota. This hat and thumbless mitts are what evolved.

Size: Hat: Baby [Toddler, Child, Teen/ Small Adult] (shown in size Baby)
Mitts: Newborn/3 Months [3/6 months] (shown in size Newborn/3 months)

Finished Measurements:
Hat: Diameter: 14 [16, 18, 20]inches
Height: 5 ½ [6, 7, 8] inches
Mitts: 4.5 x 5 (6.5) inch

Materials:

  • Red Heart Super Saver [100% Acrylic; 364 yd/333 m per 198 g skein]; color: Cafe Latte; 1 [1, 1, 1] skeins
  • [CC] Red Heart Super Saver [100% Acrylic; 364 yd/333 m per 198 g skein]; color: Aran; 1 [1, 1, 1] skeins
  • I/9 (5.50 mm) hook
  • Stitch Marker
  • Needle (for weaving in ends)

Gauge: 12 sts/8 rows = 4″ in hdc

Special Stitches:

Reverse Single Crochet (rsc): Working from left to right (opposite for left handers), insert hook in stitch to the right of hook, pull up a loop, under and to the left of loop on hook (2 loops on hook), yo, draw through both loops on hook to complete the stitch.

Beginning X-Stitch (beg x-st): After beginning ch at start of round, cross in front of ch, skip one stitch, dc in the next, stitch complete.

X-Stitch (x-st):Dc in stitch indicated by pattern instructions, (skip next stitch, dc in next stitch, working behind the last dc, dc in skipped stitch) repeat to end of row.

Directions:

Mitts
NOTE: Mitts are worked in the round. Do not join. All sizes start the same way through round 3 then have individual instructions per size.
